National Health Accounts

As health systems have grown and become more complex, planners and policymakers need tools to analyze health financing to better understand their own system and to make comparisons with the experiences of other nations. National Health Accounts (NHA) is a tool being used today in more than 50 low- and middle-income countries as a framework for measuring total public and private national health expenditures. NHA methodology tracks the flow of funds through the health sector, from their sources, through financial institutions, to providers and functions. Health Systems 20/20 is providing technical assistance for the National Health Accounts in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Yemen.

For copies of World Health Organization documents related to NHA, please visit: http://www.who.int/nha/docs/en/.

NHA Subaccount Guideline publications will be available soon. Please contact Susna De at susna_de@abtassoc.com for prepublication copies and for more information on NHA.
